Responding to HIV/AIDS

HIV/AIDS effects people across national boundaries and ethnicities, the poor and deprived are more vulnerable to the disease than ever before. UNDP works not only to prevent its spread but to reduce its impact. It supports national efforts by building capacity to mobilize all sectors of society and especially to protect the rights of those living with the disease.

Bahrain is working not only to control HIV/AIDS; its health project also includes controlling the incidence rates of hereditary blood diseases, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and non communicable diseases (such as cardiovascular ailments, cancer and diabetes) all of which pose a increasing economic burden on government health expenditures. By spearheading campaigns that raise awareness of these health concerns, the government hopes to contribute towards improving the quality of lives of its citizens and easing the burden on future generations of Bahrainis.
