Sustainable development is no longer an alternative paradigm for development. It takes into account numerous issues pertaining to the conservation of natural resources for future generations which if ignored may further exacerbate poverty and quality of life for a country. In addition to UNDP’s sustained efforts in this practice area, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Bahrain is also working towards assisting countries integrate sound environment management into their poverty reduction and growth policies. UNDP in Bahrain assists in strengthening the host country’s capacity to address global challenges of climate change, loss of biodiversity and ozone layer depletion by providing innovative policy advice and linking partners that help people build sustainable livelihoods. |
