Improve the Institutional Capacity of the Parliament in Bahrain

 

The purpose of the project is to provide the newly elected members of the Parliament with the appropriate training to improve their skills and knowledge to continue supporting the ongoing democratization and institutional building efforts in the Kingdom.

 

Expected Results:

  i.

Submission and approval of the Orientation manual on the constitutional framework; organizational structures, committees system-its role function/mandate, strategic/financial planning.

  ii.

Development of actual Capacity of MPs and parliament staff through training sessions/workshops after implementation of the orientation package.

  iii. Conduction of Knowledge management assessment of the capacity of the parliament
  iv. Approval and Publication of a Gender sensitive policy and package
  v. Development of E-Parliament Strategy

  Outputs and Achievements:
  2006:
 
i. Legislative introductory guide to new and returning MPs of both chambers completed, printed and presented
ii. Parliamentary bilateral relations strengthened through study tours to the parliaments of France and Malaysia.
iii. Organizational capacity assessment completed for both chambers.
iv Capacity building courses completed for more than 50 parliament staff
  2007:
 
i.

Legislative guide processed and the progress/monitoring of MPs of both chambers are to be evaluated at the end of this ongoing activity.

ii. Parliamentary bilateral relations strengthened through:
  a. study tours to the Turkish Parliaments, August 2007
  b study tours to the Scottish Parliament, November 2007 (ongoing)
  c Study tours to the European Parliament, November 2007 (ongoing)
  d Study tours to the Indian Parliament , November 2007 (ongoing)
