The incidence of
HIV/AIDS in Bahrain is relatively low. The number of cases reported
since 2003 are 255 and are the result of irresponsible syringe use,
largely amongst drug users. UNDP has approached this collaboration
with a multi-sectoral approach towards containing the spread of
HIV/AIDS. It includes capacity building of medical staff and other
stakeholders, creating awareness with help of a mass media campaign
and research into attitudes and behaviors with respect to the
disease. The National AIDS Committee will also reconvene to
officially assume the reigns of HIV/AIDS containment endeavors.
Similarly, the incidence of TB and malaria is largely infrequent. |
