UNDP Bahrain MDG's
Improve maternal health

MDG Goal 5 The maternal mortality rate for Bahrain is akin to negligible as women are provided with quality medical services during birth procedures. A cause for some concern however is the high fertility rate of 2.5 children per woman (down from 5.9 during 1975-2004) resulting in a population growth rate of 1.6 percent (a decline from 3.3 %). Assuming trends remain the same, the fertility rate and consequently the population growth rate should continue to decline.

  Indicators:
Target 5a: Reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio
  • 5.1 Maternal mortality ratio
  • 5.2 Proportion of births attended by skilled health personnel

Target 5b: Achieve, by 2015, universal access to reproductive health

  • 5.3 Contraceptive prevalence rate
  • 5.4 Adolescent birth rate
  • 5.5 Antenatal care coverage (at least one visit and at least four visits)
  • 5.6 Unmet need for family planning
