UNDP Bahrain MDG's
Achieve universal primary education

MDG Goal 2 As a welfare state, education is gratis for all Bahraini and non-Bahrainis and has achieved 100 percent net enrollment rate in primary school. Similarly, the literacy rate amongst 15-24 years old is also inching towards the 100 percentile. Challenges presently facing Bahrain’s educational sector is largely with respect to improving educational standards across all levels of enrollment. In the past, UNDP assisted these efforts by identifying areas of strengths and weaknesses within the system which could be addressed in future projects. The government has increased spending on education for 2006/2007, and has initiated numerous projects aimed not only at improving its quality but addressing issues of training and development of its human resources across both public and private sectors. E-training with a focus on creating knowledge workers, human resource development and building a knowledge society are all subject areas of ongoing projects that the UNDP is presently overseeing.
