A cross-practice
capacity assessment and M&E mission was carried out by Regional
Center in Cairo and UNDP CO for the Royal Charity Organization (RCO)
of Bahrain during the period 10-17 October 2011.

This assessment is crucial exercise given that the RCO is an
emerging important partner to UNDP CO, especially within the current
changing environment in Bahrain, and the organization’s desire to
address the rising needs of venerable groups more efficiently and
effectively. The mission aimed at assessing the capacities of the
organization against its aspired goals of reengineering and
restructuring, with an ultimate goal of enhancing its capacities and
impact on the lives of the people. This is of particular importance
since RCO is becoming more and more involved in international relief
to countries in crises.
The Royal Charity Organization (RCO) was established by His Majesty
King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and currently HM serves as the
Honorary President of the organization and HRH Shaikh Nasser Bin
Hamad Al Khalifa, the Kings son, as Chairman of the Board of
Trustees. On national level, RCO is a development agency which
provides social, health and educational care to the poor in addition
to addressing the needs of widows, the elderly and orphans. On
international level, RCO provides humanitarian aids to crises
countries such as Gaza Strip, Pakistan and Somalia. The aid is
donated based on royal instructions given by the HM the King to RCO.
The capacity development team, led by Dr. Abla Amawi, Capacity
Development Practice Leader for the Arab States Region, had already
extended support in Bahrain to the Ministry of Human Rights and
Social Development, the Supreme Council for Women and recently
assessed in launching the first Capacity Development Facility in the
region within the Bahraini Institute for Public Administration
(BIPA). |
