King praises UN’s development role:
 

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Peter Grohmann with His Majesty King HamadOn the occasion of the UN Day, 24 October, His Majesty King Hamad paid tribute to the United Nations for its role in promoting social and economic development of the Kingdom of Bahrain and other countries across the world. This came as he received at Al Safriya Palace the new UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Peter Grohmann and congratulated him on the UN Day. It also marks the 40th anniversary of Bahrain’s admission to the UN. The King congratulated Mr. Grohmann on his new position in Bahrain, wishing him success. He reiterated Bahrain’s resolve to promote partnership with the UN in all fields, lauding its role in preserving global security and peace and humanitarian contribution to serving the international community. He stressed the importance of Bahrain’s reform programmes and modernisation in ensuring landmark achievements and meeting the goals for the sake of citizens. Mr. Grohmann thanked His Majesty for the continued Bahrain support to the UN. He hailed His Majesty’s address to the 66th session of the UN General Assembly and Bahrain’s political and economic achievements.
Mr. Grohmann highlighted the importance of Bahrain’s Constitution and Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry, describing them as positive steps, reiterating UN support for reform strides. UNDP programmes and activities in the kingdom were also discussed. His Majesty on same day sent a cable of congratulations to UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-Moon marking the 66th anniversary of the UN. He hailed its role in promoting global security and peace. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander, also congratulated Mr. Ban Ki-Moon.
