H.E. Ali Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of
the Shura Council, expressed appreciation of UNDP assistance and
reiterated the commitment of the Council to continue its successful
cooperation with UNDP to build on recent achievements in strategic
planning, training and capacity development. In a meeting with the
UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Sayed Aqa,
progress and activities of the Project “Strengthening the Capacity
of the Parliamentary Secretariat and Members of Parliament” were
reviewed and upcoming activities discussed. As part of its project with the National Parliament, UNDP seeks to support both the Council of Representatives and the Shura (Consultative) Council in developing strategies to strengthen the capacities of the general-secretariat staff to support the work and functions of the members. Currently, a strategic planning exercise for the Shura Council and Council of Representatives is underway as well as a training needs analysis that will serve to specify key training requirements. The activities under the Project being planned for the new MPs were also reviewed. UNDP, with its global experiences, will provide the Shura Council with best practices in internship programmes as well as research and information management that will serve to further enhance efficiency of the Secretariat staff and the members of the Council. |
